THE GOAL OF OUR ORGANIZATION IS TO MAKE YOUNG PEOPLE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM OF NOISE-INDUCED HEARING LOSS (NIHL) AND MOTIVATE THEM TO TAKE EFFECTIVE MEASURES TO PROTECT THEIR HEARING.

“I am passionate about educating people about NIHL because the epidemic of hearing loss affecting our youth is entirely preventable!”
— Adele Sandberg, Founder

OUR HISTORY

Ear Peace: Save Your Hearing Foundation is a non-profit organization that was founded in 2010 by Adele Sandberg, a retired teacher, who became concerned about the impact of loud sound on hearing after attending NBA basketball games. The decibel levels in the arena were so loud that she and her husband began putting tissues in their ears in an attempt to muffle the noise. (They later used earplugs after learning that tissues do not provide adequate protection.) Adele was especially concerned when she saw how many young people, even babies, were being exposed to sound levels that could permanently damage their hearing. After researching the issue, she flew to Oregon to be professionally trained as a provider of the Dangerous Decibels program. This program has been proven effective in educating students about NIHL and motivating them to change their behavior. When Adele returned to Miami, she established the Ear Peace: Save Your Hearing Foundation. Adele is passionate about the issue of hearing health and is committed to increasing community awareness of NIHL. Aided by a team of Ear Peace Foundation volunteers, she has been actively educating students and training teachers about the dangers of loud sound.
